Vilayath Budha Vs Eko: The clash between Vilaayath Budha and Eko occupying the same weekend was one of the exciting encounters of the Malayalam film industry that had left filmgoers and trade analysts alike. Both movies came with different themes, target audiences, and promotional strategies, thereby increasing the fun of their evaluation in terms of box office performance. Vilaayath Budha started with decent business albeit Eko saw some terrific momentum and it got one-sided by the weekend.
Vilaayath Budha opened decently at ₹1.7 crore on its first Friday, maintaining hopes for a good one ahead. The film however witnessed a fall on Day 2 with ₹1 crore collections having a drop of 41.18%. Day 3 collections further slumped to ₹0.75 crore, bringing the four-day total to ₹3.45 crore.
The fall indicates that even with a good story and commendable performances, the film could not keep the audience’s traction. Maybe the limited family appeal could have damaged its earnings with much stronger contenders in its ways.
In contrast, Eko humble ₹0.8 crore collections on Day 1 were transformed into anything but humble profit on Day 2 with a dramatic ₹1.85 crore, a jump of 131.25%. Early Sunday estimates shot the film to ₹3.15 crore, taking three-day collections to a whopping ₹5.80 crore.
The contrast was clearly with Eko’s very favorable word-of-mouth. The gripping plot, well-executed narration, and youth buzz created momentum from a slow opening to overpowering weekend collections.
By the end of the weekend, Vilaayath Budha had certainly faced terrible competition in terms of growth, momentum, and total collections from Eko. Whereas Eko almost doubled the profits leaving Vilaayath Budha trailing away in its wake.
