Filmmaker and producer Karan Johar is officially returning to direction in 2026. After the success of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani in 2023, fans have been eagerly waiting for his next directorial venture. Now, KJo himself has confirmed the news: “Yes, I am returning to direction. That is my actual calling. All my other activities are secondary.”
While he hasn’t revealed the title or cast yet, Karan did drop a major hint. “It will be a completely different territory from Rocky Aur Rani…,” he said. The director is tight-lipped about the story but promises something fresh and surprising.
Karan’s last two directorials “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” in 2016 and “Rocky Aur Rani…” in 2023 were seven years apart. The gap, he admits, doesn’t sit well with him. “It’s not a great record. I should have made many more films,” he confessed.
He blames the gap not on laziness but on shifting priorities. “I was building my company and doing many other things,” he explained. “But I’ve realized that directing is what I truly love. It’s time to refocus.”
Currently, Karan is riding high on the success of the reality show The Traitor. The show is a TRP hit, and KJo’s charismatic hosting is drawing praise. But even with that success, he’s clear about his passion. “I enjoyed everything I did, including the show. But directing gives me creative satisfaction like nothing else,” he said.
Apart from hosting, Karan has been busy producing films under Dharma Productions and mentoring young talent. He’s also active in fashion, writing, and streaming projects.
