Since its announcement, Coolie starring Superstar Rajinikanth has been creating a huge buzz. This film marks the first collaboration between director Lokesh Kanagaraj and Rajinikanth, fueling fan excitement from the very beginning. With vintage Rajini-style action, sharp dialogues, and unique storytelling, every teaser, poster, and still has amplified anticipation. Fans have been proclaiming, “This is Rajini’s grand comeback,” eagerly awaiting its release.
Politician and producer Udhayanidhi Stalin couldn’t contain his excitement after watching a special preview of Coolie. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he congratulated Rajinikanth on completing 50 years in cinema and hailed the film as a “power-packed mass entertainer.” Stalin said he thoroughly enjoyed the movie, surprising many since he rarely publicly praises films he isn’t connected to.
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie is a gangster drama set against the backdrop of gold smuggling. Rajinikanth plays an ex-porter who takes on a powerful smuggling empire. The film boasts an ensemble cast including Aamir Khan, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, and Sathyaraj.
The film features music by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography by Girish Gangadharan, and editing by Philomin Raj.
Coolie releases on August 14, just ahead of the Independence Day holiday. It’s expected to open big and could mark the highest opening of Rajinikanth’s career. However, it faces stiff competition from War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR.
