A new film titled “Chiranjeevi Hanuman – The Eternal”, has been announced. It is being promoted as India’s first fully AI-generated theatrical release. The film is set to hit cinemas on Hanuman Jayanti in 2026. The announcement has sparked strong reactions. Filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane, known for his views on AI in cinema, voiced concern again. He has often warned about AI replacing real creative professionals.
The movie being produced by Abundantia Entertainment and Collective Media Network’s Historyverse. It will use artificial intelligence at every stage from writing the script to creating visuals. The story will focus on Lord Hanuman, drawing from the Ramayana and other ancient texts.
Shortly after the announcement, Motwane took to Instagram Stories, reposting the news with a blunt caption: “And so it begins… Who TF needs writers and directors when it’s ‘Made in AI’.”
In a past interview, he expressed fear that AI could become a cost-cutting tool for studios, leading to mass job losses. “The threat is from people in power using AI to not hire or replace creative professionals,” he warned.
Despite criticism, the creators say the film aims to honor tradition through innovation. Inspired by the Ramayana and ancient Puranic texts, the story will be crafted with the help of cultural scholars, engineers, and literary experts.
Vijay Subramaniam, CEO of Collective Artists Network, said the project is “rooted in authenticity” and that they are committed to transparency about AI’s role. Abundantia CEO Vikram Malhotra added that the film is a “humble tribute” to Hanuman, calling him a symbol of strength and devotion.
