How Janhvi Keeps Getting Leads While Sanya Gets Sidelined?

Jahnvi Kapoor: There’s no denying it; Janhvi Kapoor is still waiting for a genuine box office hit, and yet, she’s consistently cast as the lead in big-banner films. Meanwhile, someone like Sanya Malhotra, who has quietly built an impressive filmography filled with critical acclaim and audience appreciation, is still playing second fiddle. It’s not just frustrating, it feels like a crime against talent.

Janhvi Keeps Getting Leads While Sanya Gets Sidelined?

Sanya has delivered in films like Dangal, Badhaai Ho, Pataakha, Pagglait, Kathal, and even stood out in ensemble projects like Jawan and Shakuntala Devi. These aren’t just “good performances”; they are memorable, layered, and impactful. Her roles span genres, characters, and tones showing a range many mainstream “heroines” haven’t even touched.

On the other hand, Janhvi Kapoor, despite being several films in, including Gunjan Saxena, Mili, and Good Luck Jerry, has struggled to deliver a commercial hit or a unanimously praised performance. Yet, she continues to get lead roles, top billing, solo posters, and full-blown promotional budgets. The reason? The power of the surname. The safety net of being a nepo kid.

The Nepo Privilege Janhvi Kapoor has

This isn’t an attack on Janhvi personally; she didn’t choose her lineage, and it’s fair to say she’s trying. But the industry ecosystem that continues to hand her second, third, twelfth chances while making real talent like Sanya wait for “their time” is the problem. And it’s not just Sanya. Actors like Nushrratt Bharuccha, Triptii Dimri, and even Aditi Rao Hydari often have to prove their worth ten times over, while others coast by on family legacy and media narratives.

The worst part? Even if Sanya outshines Janhvi in the same film, and she often does; she’ll still be cast as the “best friend,” the “quirky sister,” or the “girl with depth” in the background. She might not feel belittled, but the audience definitely feels cheated.

That said, things are changing. Audiences are more discerning. Longevity doesn’t come from magazine covers or Instagram likes, it comes from performances that stick. And slowly, the tide will turn. Just like Esha Deol and Sonam Kapoor faded despite the push, the future belongs to the Sanyas, the Triptiis, and the ones who actually earn their place on screen.
