Akhanda 2 is one of the most highly awaited films in the industry. The distribution and production company had planned to release it for Dasara, but a series of delays resulted in uncertainty regarding the release. The team is not ready for the September 5 release, given that there is still a lot of work to do in post-production and that Boyapati and his team do want to rush the VFX at the last-minute.
Jio Plus Hotstar are leading talks to buy Akhanda 2’s digital rights. Netflix and Amazon Prime are also in negotiations, but Jio Plus Hotstar have put in the best offer and they want the rights for all the languages of the film. Meanwhile, the makers are wrapping up other non-theatrical deals. The official release date will be announced shortly.
December 5 is one feasible release date if Raja Saab shifts to the Sankranthi festival race, otherwise Akhanda 2 will release during Sankranthi next year. Regardless, it is a much awaited film. 14 Reels Plus is the production company, Thaman is the music composer. Samyuktha, Aadhi Pinisetty, Pragya Jaiswal, and Harshaali Malhotra are acting in the important roles.
Nandamuri Balakrishna also referred to as Balayya has released four films in the post-COVID cinema. His post-COVID Phase started with Akhanda (2021), then came Veera Simha Reddy (2023), Bhagavanth Kesari (2023), then Daaku Maharaaj released earlier this year. All performed fairly well at the Indian box office.
Akhanda netted 89 crores in India. Veera Simha Reddy did 97.64 crores net; almost 100 crores. Bhagavanth Kesari netted 84.78 crores. And Daaku Maharaaj ended with 91.11 crores net. So far, Balakrishna has a total post-COVID box office collection of 362.53 crores.
With Akhanda 2, Balakrishna’s aim is to be somewhere near 500 crores in India. This is a significant milestone for senior Tollywood stars in the post-COVID landscape. To achieve 500 crores, Akhanda 2 would need to achieve a minimum net of 137.47 crores.
This will not be an easy task but it is possible given the hype surrounding the film. Balakrishna’s fans as well as general moviegoers will have high expectations. And the movie will surely do well; especially with the competition from Pawan Kalyan”s OG coming out the same time.
Akhanda 2 will certainly be a big film; both digitally, and theatrically. Jio Plus Hotstar will more than likely stream the film once it comes out. Balakrishna hopes that his film will help him reach a new milestone. The makers will release a formal announcement for the release date of this film soon.
