Kuberaa Headed to OTT This Month – Will It Take the ‘Thug Life’ Shortcut?

Kuberaa Headed to OTT This Month – Will It Take the ‘Thug Life’ Shortcut?

Kuberaa’s Box Office Run Is Strong

Dhanush’s Kuberaa, directed by Sekhar Kammula and co-starring Nagarjuna and Rashmika Mandanna, has emerged as a solid winner at the box office. Since its theatrical release on June 20, 2025, the socio-political drama has earned over ₹100 crore worldwide. With that momentum, fans naturally expected a proper theatrical window before the film hit streaming platforms.

Kuberaa Piracy Puts Pressure on OTT Plans

However, trouble has emerged ahead of the film’s digital rollout. Unofficial versions of Kuberaa have started appearing on pirated websites and Telegram channels. This leak comes weeks before any official OTT release date has been confirmed. Now, strong buzz suggests that Amazon Prime Video might release the film as early as July 18, a move likely designed to curb further piracy damage.

A Repeat of the Thug Life Situation?

This is eerily similar to what happened with Thug Life, Kamal Haasan’s recent film that was leaked online soon after its theatrical debut. In response, Netflix released it on OTT just four weeks after its cinema run. Sparking debates about shrinking theatrical windows and breaching distribution deals and Producer had to pay the fine too.

Are the Makers Really Okay With This?

While fans are excited about an early OTT release, there’s growing speculation about whether the makers of Kuberaa are truly happy with this shift. An early digital drop might preserve viewership numbers online but could hurt long-term box office performance and revenue sharing with distributors.

No Official Word Yet

As of now, Amazon Prime Video hasn’t made any formal announcement about the streaming date. Until that happens, July 18 remains an unconfirmed but likely target. Whether this early OTT move helps or hurts Kuberaa in the long run is a question the makers and the platform must now face
