Manchu Vishnu Competes with Nitesh Tiwari, Om Raut; which Ramayan wins?

Indian mythology is undergoing the most revitalizing time in cinema, while filmmakers are vying to reinterpret the Ramayana to contemporary audiences through many versions. After backlash from viewers for the kind of execution in Om Raut’s Adipurush, all eyes turned to Nitesh Tiwari’s adaptation next. Now, adding to that fray is actor-producer Manchu Vishnu, claiming to have a very avant-garde vision —where the story till now followed the journey of Ram; this one instead follows Ravana’s journey-from birth to death.

Manchu Vishnu Competes with Nitesh Tiwari:

Speaking to him recently about the film, Vishnu stated: “I have a complete script that details the life of Ravana, which I penned back in 2009.” It was originally to be made with legendary director K. Raghavendra Rao and Vishnu’s dad Mohan Babu as the voice of Ravana but was later shelved due to limited funds. Now, Vishnu is back on it with a dream cast:

Suriya as Lord Rama

Alia Bhatt as Sita

Karthi as Indrajit

Kalyan Ram as Lakshman

Sathyaraj as Jatayu

Vishnu himself expressed interest in playing Hanuman, although the director envisioned him as Indrajit instead.

Nitesh Tiwari’s Star-Studded Epic

Of course, Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana is already reeking of the stars:

Ranbir Kapoor as Rama

Sai Pallavi as Sita

Yash as Ravana

With all the support of leading-edge VFX and a colossal budget, Tiwari’s version will roll out in two parts, with the first being unveiled on Diwali, 2026.

Whose Ramayan is better?

Though Nitesh Tiwari’s version promises to be large and star-studded, Vishnu’s take gives a fresh angle-making Ravana humane and delving into the complexities of his character. The multiple perspectives through which an audience can experience the epic now allow for a real victory.
