Manish Malhotra is known for dressing Bollywood’s biggest stars. Now, he is making headlines for something else, his directorial debut. ‘Bun Tikki’, a film he co-produced, has been officially selected for the Chicago South Asian Film Festival.
The designer turned filmmaker took to Instagram to share his joy. “It is a proud moment for us,” he wrote, celebrating the achievement of Bun Tikki and another film, Saali Mohabaat, both under his production banner Stage 5 Production in collaboration with Jio Studios.
Bun Tikki is directed by Faraz Arif Ansari and stars two legendary actresses, Shabana Azmi and Zeenat Aman. The story follows two women in their 60s who decide to start a food business together. The film also features Abhay Deol, Nushrratt Bharuccha, and introduces Rohaan Singh. The feel-good plot and powerhouse cast have already created buzz, and the Chicago selection marks a promising start for Malhotra’s cinematic journey.
Tisca Chopra’s directorial debut Saali Mohabbat has also made it to the Chicago Film Festival lineup. The film had its world premiere at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on November 22, 2024. It is a gripping “howdunit” thriller that weaves themes of infidelity, deceit, and murder through the tale of a housewife’s confession to her guests. The cast includes Radhika Apte, Divyenndu, Anshumaan Pushkar, Sauraseni Maitra, Sharat Saxena, and Anurag Kashyap. The film not only marks Chopra’s first foray into direction, but also Manish Malhotra’s debut as a producer under Stage5 Productions, in collaboration with Jio Studios

Malhotra is already prepping his next film with Rakul Preet Singh, sharing costume trials online. Meanwhile, his upcoming project Gustaakh Ishq, based on a story by Gulzar and stars Naseeruddin Shah, Vijay Varma, and Fatima Sana Shaikh. A teaser released recently has fans eagerly waiting.
