Actor Manoj Bajpayee is back in the spotlight with his latest release Inspector Zende, already creating buzz for its gripping cat-and-mouse storyline. Based on real-life events, the film follows the relentless chase of serial killer Carl Bhojraj, played by Jim Sarbh, by the sharp-minded Inspector Zende, portrayed by Bajpayee.
Manoj said he was drawn to the character because of Zende’s quiet bravery. “He wasn’t chasing glory, he was just doing his job,” he shared, adding that playing the real-life Mumbai cop was both gritty and inspiring.
In a recent interview, Bajpayee gave a candid reply when someone asked if OTT actors, despite their popularity, earn as much as film stars. With a touch of sarcasm, he said, “I don’t get the money.”
He pointed out that producers often bring up budget constraints even for theatrical releases. “They want to make every project risk-free,” he added, noting how financial caution now drives decisions more than creative ambition.
Despite the challenges, Bajpayee acknowledged that OTT platforms have opened doors for stories that wouldn’t be told otherwise. He noted that the streaming space still allows space for performance-driven narratives, though he admitted that truly independent content is now harder to find. With Inspector Zende, he believes the story finally gets the global spotlight it deserves. “It’s a glimpse into a world that’s as real as it is entertaining,” he said.

For Bajpayee, playing Inspector Zende wasn’t just another role it was personal. After meeting the real-life Zende, he felt even more connected to the character. “It felt like stepping into a storybook,” he said. The experience gave him a deeper appreciation for everyday heroes whose stories often go untold.
