The sequel to Marco, one of Malayalam cinema’s biggest 2024 hits, is officially in the works. Trade analyst AB George recently shared a picture showing that the film’s makers, Cubes Entertainment, have registered the title Lord Marco with the Film Chamber. Directed by Haneef Adeni, the film’s announcement has generated excitement but also left fans with one big question: where is Unni Mukundan?
What surprised many was the absence of Unni Mukundan’s name on the registration documents. The actor, who played the brutal lead in Marco, was a huge part of the film’s Rs 100 crore global success. However, earlier this year, Mukundan had already hinted that he had no plans to return. Back in June, during an Instagram Q&A about his weight loss journey, a fan asked about Marco2. Mukundan responded:
“Bro, apologies, but I have dropped plans to continue the Marco series. Too much negativity around the project. I’ll try my best to bring something bigger and better than Marco.”
Interestingly, news of Lord Marco broke on the same day Mukundan was officially announced as the lead in a new biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Directed by Telugu filmmaker Kranthi Kumar CH, the multilingual film will focus on Modi’s political journey and his bond with his late mother.

As speculation grows about the new lead, trade analyst AB George added on X (formerly
Twitter): “Director Haneef Adeni and Producer Shareef Muhammed have registered the title #LordMarco. #UnniMukundan is not part of the project. Who do you think will lead in #Marco2? Any guesses?”
Fans now wait to see who steps into the role and whether Lord Marco can match the original’s success without its breakout star.
