Tollywood’s latest release Mirai which has doing well at the box office has now landed in controversy for a very different reason. A copyright dispute on the movie is fast becoming a hot topic.

Chaitanya Giridhar, an author from Vijayawada, has moved the High Court of Andhra Pradesh raising concerns that key elements of Mirai resemble his book “The Book of Destruction – Ashoka and the Nine Unknown Men.” He claims that the storyline, movie characters and certain themes in the movie show strong similarities to his work published in 2019.

Interestingly, this debate began even before the case was filed. On September 13, 2025, some news websites published reports pointing out story elements in Mirai that appeared to echo the book. Soon after, social media buzz picked up, with fans debating whether Mirai had actually taken inspiration from the literary work or whether it was all just coincidence.

With the petition now filed, the issue has gained even more attention. While the film continues its theatrical run, the copyright dispute has given Mirai a parallel spotlight off-screen, making it one of the most talked-about films of the season.

Now the big question is whether Mirai truly an original creation, or is it influenced by Chaitanya Giridhar’s book?

On one side, box office collections are growing, but on the other side, this controversy has sparked a larger debate in Tollywood about the protection of copyrights. Mirai has now become a hot topic not just for its story and star cast, but also for its copyright battle.
