Kalki 2 Update: Indian Superstar Prabhas entertained us last year with Kalki 2898AD. It has Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Hassan, and Disha Patani playing other leads. The film became a massive box office hit, collecting over 1200cr at the ticket windows, and it garnered good reviews from critics and audiences upon its release. The film became popular among the younger generation because of its subject matter, director and writer Nag Ashwin carefully crafted its screenplay by blending mythology and science; this fusion gave the audience a visual treat to watch on big screens. It became the first of its kind of movie in the genre(sci-fi/action).

Nag Ashwin’s latest update about Kalki 2:

Director Nag Ashwin recently gave an interview, and in that he talked about a lot of other things, but a particular aspect of that interview caught everyone’s attention. He was asked, “When are we going to see Kalki 2 on screens?” Without any hesitation gave an honest answer. He said the pre-production works are going on, but for the shoot to happen, there are logistical reasons involved, one of which is the actor’s schedules.

Everyone who acted in the first is are big superstar and all of them are busy with other projects. Prabhas has 3 to 4 projects he has already signed up for, so he said they are hoping to start by the end of 2026 year end and with massive action sequences involved in the second part, the entire film will need at least 3 years to make. So, by this announcement, we can anticipate that Kalki 2 is nowhere near the process of entertaining us soon.

Is Prabhas pushing back Kalki intentionally?

Nag Ashwin clearly stated that logistical reasons delay the making of the film and that it will take time. Fans and industry experts speculate that Prabhas shows little interest in taking the film to the floors anytime soon. On one hand, he must finish his prior commitments; on the other, Kalki’s massive success and the audience’s overwhelming credit to Amitabh for the Ashwattama character may have upset Prabhas’s inner circle. They feel that although he gave his best to the film, people did not appreciate his effort.

Another major reason stems from the first part, where filmmakers used a body double for many action sequences. This damaged his reputation among fans, who accused him of laziness and voiced it openly on social media. Despite these speculations, fans eagerly wait to revisit the world of Kalki on screen. Still, the sequel is dead on the table for now.
