Rishab Shetty will focus solely on history and mythology for the next five years. He wants to build a legacy rooted in India’s cultural heritage. All his upcoming films will dive into grandeur, tradition, and epic storytelling.
Shetty returns to the Kantara universe with Kantara Chapter 1. He will write, direct, and star in this prequel. Produced by Hombale Films, it will release in theaters on October 2, 2025. The film will explore the lore, spiritual themes, and mystique that shaped the original Kantara.
In January 2027, Shetty will portray Shivaji Maharaj, the legendary Maratha king. The film, titled The Pride of Bharat, is directed by Sandeep Singh. It will present a pan-India narrative of Shivaji’s leadership, valor, and noble legacy. Shetty wants audiences nationwide to connect with this iconic ruler.
The third film is based on Anandamath, Bankim Chandra Chatterjee’s classic novel. Titled 1770 Movie, it is directed by Ashwin Gangaraju (of Aakashavani fame) and produced by Sithara Entertainments. It will dramatize the Sannyasi Rebellion and early anti-colonial spirit. Production will begin soon, and the slate expects a release within the next few years.
Shetty will feature in a biopic on Sri Krishnadevaraya, directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, celebrated for films like Lagaan and Jodhaa Akbar. The film, produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri, is in early development. It aims to celebrate the great stability and patronage of one of South India’s most iconic kings.
He’s also part of Jai Hanuman, directed by Prasanth Varma and produced by Mythri Movie Makers. This marks an extension of Varma’s mythological universe following Hanu‑Man. The launch will wait until Varma completes his next project with Prabhas.
