Fictional Bands Take Over
Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters is rewriting K-pop history literally. The animated musical has stunned the music industry by beating real-life giants BTS and Blackpink on the US Spotify charts.
The film’s breakout hit, Your Idol, performed by fictional boy group Saja Boys, reached No. 1 on the US Spotify chart last Friday. This makes them the highest-charting male K-pop group in US Spotify history, pushing BTS from the top spot.
Not to be outdone, Golden a fierce track by Huntr/x, the movie’s girl group landed at No. 2. That surpasses Blackpink’s highest US chart position, setting a new record for female K-pop groups.
The KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack also entered the top 10 of the Billboard 200, the highest debut for any soundtrack in 2025 so far.
The plot follows three K-pop idols Rumi, Mira, and Zoey who live double lives as demon hunters. Their concerts aren’t just performances; they’re battles against supernatural evil.
The group’s biggest enemies? The Saja Boys, a rival band made up of demons sent by their dark overlord Gwi-ma to steal the souls of fans.
The film’s music success isn’t accidental. Producers like Teddy Park (Blackpink) and Lindgren (BTS collaborator) worked on the songs. Netflix has even submitted Golden for awards consideration, and Republic Records is releasing it as an official single.

While the animated idols rule the charts, real-life K-pop giants are prepping their returns. BTS is heading to the US to work on a new album post-military service. Blackpink kicks off their first all-stadium world tour on July 5, promising new music soon.
