Timothee Chalamet is nearly unrecognizable in the first poster for Marty Supreme, released Tuesday by A24. The Oscar-nominated actor stars as real-life ping-pong champion Marty Reisman in the upcoming biopic directed by Josh Safdie. The bold poster has already sparked excitement online ahead of the film’s December 25 release.
A24 confirmed the film’s release date as Christmas Day, making it one of the most anticipated end-of-year titles. Alongside Chalamet, the film features Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, and Fran Drescher. The trailer is set to drop Wednesday, giving fans their first full glimpse at Chalamet in action.
Chalamet didn’t take the role lightly. To authentically portray the flamboyant and ultra-skilled Reisman, he underwent intense physical and technical training. Cinematographer Darius Khondji revealed that Chalamet trained “for months and months” before filming even began. “You can do camera tricks,” Khondji told Variety, “but Timothée wanted to play like a real professional when he stepped onto set.”
Marty Reisman wasn’t just a champion, he was a character. Known for his sharp wit, street-smart flair, and unmatched paddle control, he rose from hustling games on New York streets to winning more than 20 major titles between 1946 and 2002. His larger-than-life persona made him a perfect subject for the Safdie brothers’ gritty storytelling style.

While Khondji hasn’t seen the final cut, he described the shoot as “hard and crazy” a nod to both the physical demands and emotional intensity Chalamet brought to the role. Early buzz from insiders suggests Marty Supreme could deliver one of the most unexpected and compelling sports dramas of the year.
