Vijay Deverakonda’s heavily awaited spy action thriller Kingdom has been in the news for months. The film is directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri of Jersey fame and was initially launched as VD12. That was before officially announced the title as Kingdom in early 2025. With multiple delays and reshoots in tow, the fans awaited some clarity on the release date. Kingdom is a new genre for Vijay Deverakonda, where he will be seen as a spy in a gritty action tale. This film is scheduled to be led by Bhagyashri Borse and the supporting actor Satyadev. With a stellar lineup comprising Anirudh Ravichander as music director and Girish Gangadharan and Jomon T. John handling the cinematography. Spread across various locations in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Kerala, and even Sri Lanka, the film promises to be a large-scale cinematic experience. From a tentative project dubbed VD12, it began to gain traction and buzz once it was officially called Kingdom in February 2025.
Delay After Delay: What Caused the Hold-Up?
Kingdom was originally scheduled for release on March 30, 2025, but production delays shifted it first to May 30 and then to July 4. As industry sources indicate, the team needed more time for post-production and editing of some important action sequences. The delay was compounded by strategic scheduling to avoid competition from other big releases and national events.
In June 2025, Vijay Deverakonda reportedly joined the team in Goa for some crucial reshoots. Reinforcing speculation that significant portions of the film were being altered for improvements in narrative context. The team has remained quite because of the concern shown by fans with the repeated postpositions — until now.
On July 7, 2025, an action-packed promo video was released by the makers confirming the new release date-poster, July 31, 2025. This was shared by Vijay himself over a social media platform. With the announcement video sporting adrenaline-filled visuals, Anirudh’s intense background score, and glimpses of emotional and action-based film settings. Vijay wrote, “#KINGDOM July 31st. Worldwide. Let our destinies unfold.”
This will now be the final confirmed date for an Indian and International theatrical run, with a probable Netflix Digital Release a few weeks after. An exact OTT premiere date remains unannounced.
