Stuntman SM Raju: Mohan Raj, also known as SM Raju, tragically lost his life while performing a high-risk stunt for actor Arya’s upcoming film Vettuvam, directed by Pa Ranjith. The fatal accident occurred on Sunday, July 13, during the shoot of a stunt sequence involving an SUV.

During the scene, the SUV was supposed to launch off a ramp and crash on impact. However, the execution went terribly wrong. The vehicle somersaulted mid-air and crashed, inflicting severe chest injuries on Mohan Raj. The crew rushed him to the Nagapattinam Government Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Footage of the incident, now viral on social media, shows a camera car moving forward as the SUV accelerates toward the ramp. Just before the intended crash, the SUV unexpectedly flips in the air. When Mohan Raj failed to exit the vehicle, crew members ran to the SUV and found him unconscious inside.

Who is SM Raju?

SM Raju, another name for Mohan Raj, was a Kanchipuram district native. The 52-year-old was Selvaraj’s son. He was an experienced stunt artist in the Kollywood industry, having done stunts on multiple large-scale movie sets.

Tamil Actor Vishal’s Response:
Vishal, a Tamil actor well known for his role in “Avan Ivan,” has sent his deepest sympathies to stuntman Raju’s family. In addition, he promised to support his family. Vishal said on X (previously Twitter) that it was “so hard to digest the fact that stunt artist Raju passed away while doing a car toppling sequence for jammy @arya_offl and @beemji Ranjith’s film this morning.”

Vishal offered the family even more assistance. “May his soul rest in peace, and my sincerest condolences.” May God grant his family additional fortitude in the face of their tragic loss. In addition to this tweet, I will undoubtedly support his family’s future because we work in the same field and because of the several films he has contributed to. I offer my support for them from the bottom of my heart and as required by law.

In a tweet on his social media accounts, well-known stunt choreographer Silva, who has directed action for celebrities like Mohanlal, also sent his sympathies to Raju’s family. “S M Raju, one of our greatest car-jumping stunt performers, passed away today while performing vehicle stunts. He shared his photo on social media and commented, “Our stunt union and Indian film industry will miss him.”
