Ahead of Satya’s Re-release, Bajpayee Reflects on the Pressure of Fame. Ram Gopal Varma’s 1998 cult classic, ‘Satya,’ is set for a grand re-release in cinemas. This gangster film, celebrated for its raw portrayal of Mumbai’s underworld, will return to the big screen. Fans couldn’t keep calm as they can witness the cult classic all over again on big screens. The film Satya starred JD Chakravarthy, Manoj Bajpayee, Shefali Shah, Urmila Matondkar, and others. Now Manoj Bajpayee candidly opens up about his struggles with stardom post-Satya.
The film Sathya was released in early 1998 that gave fame and national recognition to actors and directors. Especially Manoj Bajpayee received a positive reception from the audience and received the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor. In a recent conversation, the actor revealed “I wasn’t comfortable with all the attention and privileges. Whenever I went to five-star hotels or sat in my car, it felt like I was sitting in someone else’s car.”
Talking about the fame, Manoj Bajpayee revealed, “It was Akshaye who said, ‘Manoj, why are you feeling so guilty about your success? Own it.’ That conversation really knocked some sense into me. You have not seen all of this for such a long time that you’re not used to it. People ask me, ‘Are you comfortable with the attention that you are getting?’ No, how can I be? I am very nice and polite to them, but to expect me to be comfortable? No. For 25 years, I hadn’t gotten that attention. By the time I became a star, all others had been stars for 30 years or so. They wouldn’t know anything else.”
It’s been more than two decades since Manoj Bajpayee and Ram Gopal Varma. They last worked together on a film called Sathya which was released in 1998. Manoj’s portrayal of Bhiku Mhatre in Sathya left an indelible mark on the audience. Now the actor revealed that they are going to collaborate once again after nearly two decades. Earlier, Manoj Bajpayee worked with Ram Gopal Varma in multiple films such as Kaun (1999), Shool (1999), and Road (2002).
