According to reports, the threat had been received when the flight was at least several hours away from its destination. The Delhi Police was informed according to officials about a message that gives an indication of the presence of explosive device, and immediately started coordination with Air India operations control team and airport security.
As per bomb threat procedures, the aircraft was taken to a remote isolation bay after landing. Security personnel including Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) swept the aircraft and luggage compartments thoroughly.
Air India issued a short statement stating that all safety protocols were followed “with utmost care” and that passenger well-being continued to be the airline’s top priority. They were all safely brought out, and the flight was inspected by authorities and cleared.
Sources confirmed that nothing suspicious was found, but the threat assessment committee was directed to study the communication and determine whether it was genuine or a hoax.
Delhi Police have initiated necessary steps to trace the origin of the threat. According to reports, the cyber and intelligence units are investigating whether the message originated in India or abroad. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has also been informed but officials say, according to primary assessment, it does not appear to be a specific threat.
