Benguluru Metro Yellow Line: Bengaluru metro’s yellow line is one of the most anticipated terminal in the city. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to officially open this long delayed line. Let’s know understand the yellow line timings, train frequency and full schedule about the yellow line.
Yellow Line Operational Timings:
Bengaluru metro’s yellow line timings are going to be from 5 A.M to 11 P.M. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to inaugurate on August 10 and from the next onwards the services are going to start. With this update the Phase 2 is going to grow to 53.8 Km and the total metro line in Bengaluru is going to be 96.1 Km.
Yellow Line Train Frequency:
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) now runs only three autonomous trains on the Yellow Line. These operate every 25 minutes. Due to the low frequency, BMRCL expects about 25,000 passengers daily. However, once BMRCL starts full operations with 15 trains early next year, it expects daily ridership to reach 2 lakh.
“We don’t expect heavy usage right now because of the 25-minute gap,” a senior BMRCL officer told the media. “But with 15 trains, ridership should rise to 1.5–2 lakh.” BMRCL has dropped its earlier plan to open only seven stations. Officials decided to run all 16 stations, saying a 25-minute frequency is still manageable. Another senior officer said fewer stations would have reduced ridership further. A full one-way journey will take around 38 minutes.
With 25,000 passengers, BMRCL expects to earn Rs 10–15 lakh daily. Once full operations begin, it hopes to earn at least Rs 60 lakh per day. The Yellow Line will end years of waiting for people in southern and southeast Bengaluru. It is expected to ease traffic at Silk Board Junction and improve metro access to Electronics City, a key tech hub.

South India’s first double-deck Road & Metro:
In 2017, BMRCL awarded Rs 5,056.99 crore to two businesses for building contracts, dividing the work into three packages. Officials scheduled two packages for completion in 2021. They expected the third package which includes South India’s first double-deck viaduct for road and metro, to take longer.
By 2023, most construction was complete. However, a shortage of trains delayed the line’s opening. In December 2019, BMRCL awarded a Rs 1,578-crore contract to China’s CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co Ltd to supply 36 trainsets in 173 weeks, 15 for the Yellow Line and 21 for the Purple and Green Lines. CRRC committed to building 75% of these trains in India.
After failing to set up a factory in Andhra Pradesh, CRRC partnered with Bengal-based Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL). But TRSL faced delays as Chinese engineers couldn’t get visas on time. BMRCL expects the fourth train for the Yellow Line to arrive by August 10. It will undergo three weeks of testing before starting operations.
