Pension Clarification:
The Central Government has issued an important clarification that brings big relief to employees and pensioners. The Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW) has officially confirmed that the name of a daughter cannot be removed from the family pension list once it is added in the required format. This announcement comes after many complaints that daughters’ names were being deleted from family records after the employee retired.
According to the latest Office Memorandum, every government employee or pensioner must give details of their family members when they join service. This information includes the names of the spouse, children, parents, and even disabled siblings. The document clearly states that once a daughter’s name is submitted in the prescribed form, she will be treated as a valid member of the family for pension records. Her name cannot be removed from the list.
The department also explained that the eligibility for family pension will be checked only after the death of the pensioner or existing family pensioner. This means that just because a daughter is included in the records does not guarantee a pension immediately, but her name will stay in the list, and her eligibility will be decided later based on rules.
This clarification has been issued under Rule 50(15) of the Central Civil Services (Pension) Rules, 2021. These rules guide all matters related to pension for central government employees.
Another important point mentioned is that if the name of a family member is missing from Form 4 or office records after the employee’s death, the pension request of that family member should not be rejected. The office must first verify whether the person is eligible as per the pension rules. If eligible, the claim must be processed.
This new clarification is expected to help many families, especially daughters who depend on family pension after the death of their parents. It also reduces confusion and ensures that pension rights are protected properly.
The government hopes that this step will bring transparency and reduce unnecessary delays in pension-related matters for central government employees and their families.
