Class 11 Student Suicide Note Blames Teacher; ‘Pressed Pen’ Punishment

A 17-year-old Class 11 student from Rewa district in Madhya Pradesh committed suicide on November 16, leaving behind a pen-written note which has made accusations against her school teacher at a public level. The police confirmed that the teenager had hanged herself at her home and her notebook contained extensive details of the abuse, as she claims to have undergone at school.

According to inquiries, the student wrote that she frequently went through torturous and embarrassing punishments from her teacher. The student described one incident where it was said the teacher pressed the pen mercilessly between her fingers for discipline. She also added that the teacher once caught her hand and made her do things that caused pain, leaving her feeling picked on and less torn apart.

It seems thus that those on repetition have a deep-rooted emotional stronghold on her, trying to drag her into panic and anxiety each time she is supposed to go to school.

Family Raised Some Serious Questions

Her family said that at home, she had been normal and all of this made her death shock even bigger; they alleged silent harassment in the insides of the school and demanded strict investigation into the teacher’s action recommended in the note.

And, her relatives were also asking authorities to check how much of whatever was going on with her at school so that no other child should have to go through such treatment.

Police Begins Inquiry

Meanwhile, According to Aarti Singh, ASP, an extensive investigation had already begun. Officers will first study the note before talking to teachers and classmates. They will also study the student’s current daily activities to understand the background of the tragedy.

Police also assured the family that everything mentioned in the note would get verified.

The event also awakened the topic that abusive disciplinary measures are still practiced in some of the classrooms. A minor physical punishment, as child welfare advocates say, can place a lifetime psychological harm.

This is indeed a precious reminder that schools have to provide emotional and physical comfort, safety, and health above punishment bondage.
