Ex-Nepal PM Jhalanath Khanal Wife Dies in Protest Violence

Ex-Nepal PM Jhalanath Khanal Wife:

Nepal is witnessing one of its most violent phases in recent years as large-scale protests have taken over the country. During this unrest, Rajyalaxmi Chitrakar, wife of former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal, lost her life after protesters set fire to their residence in Dallu.

Ex-Nepal PM Jhalanath Khanal Wife:

According to reports from local media, demonstrators trapped Rajyalaxmi inside the house before setting it ablaze. She was later rescued and taken to Kirtipur Burn Hospital in a critical condition. Sadly, despite medical efforts, she could not survive. Family sources confirmed her passing, though an official statement is yet to be released.

Rajyalaxmi’s death has shocked many as she became one of the victims of the violent “Gen Z protests” that have swept Nepal. The protests turned deadly after security forces allegedly opened fire on demonstrators, killing 19 youths and injuring over 500 people earlier this week.

The unrest has not been limited to homes. On Tuesday, protesters targeted several major government buildings, including the Parliament, the President’s Office, and Singha Durbar, which houses many central ministries. Other institutions such as the Supreme Court, the Special Court, district courts, and the office of the Attorney General were also attacked.

Private residences of political leaders were not spared either. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s house in Balkot, along with properties belonging to President Ramchandra Paudel, former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, former PM Sher Bahadur Deuba, and Communication Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung, came under attack. Protesters threw stones, smashed windows, and set fire to several of these locations.

Due to the chaos, the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu has been shut down completely. The Nepali Army has been deployed to secure vital installations and maintain order.

The protests, which started as a movement against corruption, have now spiraled into widespread violence. With growing anger among the youth and continued political instability, Nepal is facing a critical situation. The tragic death of Rajyalaxmi Chitrakar has added to the grief and highlighted the human cost of the escalating crisis.
