Satyapal Malik: According to his secretary KS Rana, Satyapal Malik, 79, the former governor of Jammu and Kashmir, died in Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital following a protracted illness. Malik has spent the last few weeks receiving therapy for issues linked to his kidneys. At 1:10 PM on Tuesday, the former governor passed away, according to hospital officials at Delhi Hospital.
Who Was Satyapal Malik?
Satyapal Malik was born on 24 July 1946 in Hisawda village, Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh. He belonged to a Jat family. He obtained a Bachelor of Science and an LLB degree from Meerut College. He began his political career as the student union president of Meerut College in 1968–69. He served as a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from 1974 to 1977. He represented Uttar Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha from 1980 to 1989. From 1989 to 1991, he served as a Member of Parliament in the Ninth Lok Sabha from Aligarh. He represented the Janata Dal.

Article 370 Was Abolished During His Tenure
Satyapal Malik served as the last Governor of Jammu and Kashmir from August 2018 to October 2019. On 5 August 2019, during his tenure, the government repealed Article 370 and reorganized Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories. After completing his term there, he took charge as the Governor of Bihar and later of Meghalaya. He openly highlighted security lapses in the 2019 Pulwama attack and accused officials of corruption in the Kiru Hydropower Project, which brought him into the spotlight and sparked several controversies. Over time, he became a vocal critic of the BJP.
On June 8, Satyapal Malik shared a health update on social media, describing his condition as “serious.” A day earlier, he had posted on X that doctors had hospitalized him for the past month and were treating him for kidney-related issues.
