Hyderabad Flood Alert: Is Another Devastating Flood Coming?

Hyderabad Flood Alert: With the 2020 tragedy still fresh in people’s memories, Hyderabad has experienced significant flooding in recent years. Then, there was waterlogging, extensive damage, and fatalities due to heavy rainfall. Colonies were flooded, roads became rivers, and thousands of residents had to flee their homes. One major worry now is if Hyderabad would have another flood like the one that occurred previously, as the city experiences tremendous rainfall every monsoon. The risk cannot be disregarded, according to experts. Lakes and open places that traditionally absorbed excess precipitation have diminished due to rapid development. Construction has obstructed a lot of natural drainage systems, so rainwater has nowhere to go. Flooding occurs in low-lying places such as Begumpet, Malakpet, and Tolichowki after just a few hours of heavy rain.

Infrastructure Redevelopment:

As so many government has changed over the period of time, every government has tried to clear the encroachments on nalas and also installed stormwater systems across the city. The main issue will be in the sewage systems as they get blocked, water won’t be flown easily. This mainly creates the water stagnation in the most of the low lying areas. According to the public, additional work must be done to guarantee long-term safety. Both robust infrastructure and stringent control over unauthorized building are necessary for flood management.
