Hyderabad Rains: 358 Buildings Declared Risky Amid Rain Alert

Heavy Hyderabad Rains: Hyderabad is now facing heavy rains. The GHMC commissioner has instructed all the officials to look after the 358 noticed buildings which has been noted as decrepit. He also instructed them to take the required steps to maintain public safety. Residents are asked to exercise caution in and near these buildings.


GHMC Commissioner Instruction:
All authorities have been instructed by GHMC Commissioner R V Karnan to remain vigilant and take appropriate action regarding the excavation of cellars and decaying structures. He urged the authorities to immediately take action and reevaluate the deteriorated buildings and cellar excavations. Action has been taken on 327 of the 685 decaying properties, while the remaining 358 structures are still awaiting follow-up. GHMC has already obtained the stability of the structures, delivered notices, and advised the owners to leave the property.

About cellar excavation, GHMC officials found 154 excavations. Retaining wall construction has been finished at 61 locations, while the remaining 93 sites are still undergoing this type of work. By sending out notices, GHMC started taking action against 52 unapproved cellars. Additionally, GHMC is monitoring important decaying buildings and advising owners to remove them. The GHMC canceled the Town Planning officers’ leaves due to the two days of heavy rain and told them not to leave the headquarters without permission.
