IRCTC Night-time Rule:
Indian Railways has introduced a special rule that many passengers are unaware of. Between 10 PM and 6 AM, ticket checks are prohibited in sleeper and AC coaches. This regulation aims to ensure that passengers can rest peacefully during long journeys, without unnecessary disturbances. Interestingly, nearly 90% of travelers are unaware of this rule.
Under normal conditions, a seated passenger with a verified ticket is not checked between 10 PM and 6 AM.This rule applies only if the ticket was verified before 10 PM.If you board the train after 10 PM, the rule does not apply. The same applies if you start your journey at an intermediate station. In these cases, the TTE has the right to check your ticket.
In emergency situations or during special inspections, ticket verification may be required. But passengers should not be harassed during these checks. If you face repeated interruptions or harassment from TTEs after 10 PM, you can report the issue to the Indian Railway helpline at 139, and the authorities will take necessary actions to resolve the matter.
Additionally, the Railways has implemented other rules to ensure passenger comfort and safety at night. These include avoiding loud conversations, not playing music or videos without headphones, turning off main coach lights, using dim lighting, and prohibiting the use of charging points between 11 PM and 5 AM to prevent fire hazards.
These rules prioritize the comfort and safety of travelers, making the journey more enjoyable and stress-free. It’s important to be aware of your rights and follow railway guidelines to ensure a smooth travel experience. As the festive season approaches, travelers should also be aware of train cancellations and short-term terminations due to maintenance work on certain routes.
