IRCTC Offers 20% Discount:
Indian Railways has introduced a new scheme to ease travel during the festive season by offering a 20% discount on the base fare of return journey tickets. The initiative, aimed at reducing congestion and improving the utilization of train services, will be available for passengers booking both onward and return tickets for the same class and origin-destination pair.
This “Round Trip Package for Festival Rush” scheme will help facilitate hassle-free travel, especially during peak times. According to a circular issued by the Railway Board on August 8, 2025, passengers can book their onward journey tickets from August 14, 2025, for trains scheduled between October 13 and October 26, 2025. The corresponding return tickets must be booked using the connecting journey feature for travel between November 17 and December 1, 2025.
Key details of the scheme:
1.The rebate of 20% is applicable only on the base fare of the return journey.
2.Passengers must first book the onward journey ticket, followed by the return ticket for the same class and destination.
3.The scheme applies to confirmed tickets, and both tickets (onward and return) must be for the same origin-destination pair.
4. Bookings are available either online or at reservation counters, but no changes, refunds, or modifications are allowed for these tickets.
5.The offer is valid across all train classes, including special trains, but not for trains with flexi-fare pricing.
To avail of the discount, passengers need to follow these steps:
1. Book the onward ticket first for journeys between October 13 and October 26, 2025.
2. Book the return ticket using the connecting journey feature, valid for travel between November 17 and December 1, 2025.
3. Ensure that both tickets are for the same origin-destination pair, travel class, and set of passengers.
This initiative is designed to manage crowding during peak travel times and provide a smoother travel experience for passengers heading home during the festival season.
