Indian Railways lets many riders book train seats online using its site IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation). But plans can shift, so knowing IRCTC ticket cancellation costs is key to avoid mix-ups and losing cash.

Here’s a full look at how the IRCTC sets prices when you cancel, based on the type of seat and when you cancel.

IRCTC Ticket Cancellation Costs:

1. Costs to Cancel Confirmed Tickets

If you call off a seat that was set, what you pay depends on how long until your train leaves:

Over 48 hours before it leaves:

₹240 for AC First Class/Executive Class

₹200 for AC 2 Tier/First Class

₹180 for AC 3 Tier/AC Chair Car/AC 3 Economy

₹120 for Sleeper Class

₹60 for Second Class

From 48 to 12 hours before it leaves:

25% of the ticket price (but not less than the sums above)

From 12 to 4 hours before it leaves:

50% of the ticket price (but not less than the sums above)

Less than 4 hours before it leaves:

No cash back for seats set in stone.

2. Stopping RAC or Waitlisted Tickets

Before they set who goes:

Full cash back minus a small fee of ₹60 (plus GST if it applies).

Once they decide:

No cash back for e-tickets still on the waitlist. Yet, for counter tickets, you can give in a TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt) at the station.

3. Tatkal Ticket Cancellation

Set Tatkal tickets: No cash back at all.

Tatkal tickets still on the waitlist: These get axed and money back on their own after list is set.
