Kamal Haasan visited Rajinikanth at his Poes Garden residence on Wednesday. The timing was no coincidence. Haasan is set to take his oath as a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament on July 25. Rajinikanth greeted him with a bouquet and warm wishes. Their hug, captured in photos, quickly went viral on social media.
Haasan later wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “I shared my joy with my friend Rajinikanth before embarking on my new journey.” His visit felt more like a brotherhood ritual than a political formality. With cameras flashing, the moment became a fusion of cinema and public life.
Haasan and Rajinikanth are not just stars; they are co-architects of Tamil cinema’s golden era. Their friendship dates back to the 1970s when they worked under director K. Balachander. Over the years, they acted together in at least 11 films, including classics like “Moondru Mudichu” and “Ninaithale Inikkum”. Though they walked different political paths, their personal bond never frayed.
This visit is not new. Haasan also supported Rajinikanth during his brief political entry and health challenges. Rajini, in turn, often praised Haasan’s courage in politics, even when they disagreed.

Backed by the DMK alliance, Kamal Haasan was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha in June. His party, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), received the seat as part of a pre-poll alliance deal. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin and Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin were present when Haasan filed his nomination.
As he prepares to take the oath, his visit to Rajinikanth felt symbolic. The superstar didn’t need a political post to give his blessing. A gesture, a smile, and a bouquet were enough. Haasan now walks into Parliament with both political support and cinematic legacy at his back.
