School Holiday Today: Which States Have Announced Closures?

School Holiday Today on Sep 19:

Friday, September 19, 2025, is not a nationwide holiday for schools in India. Most schools across the country are open as usual. However, a few regions are experiencing special closures due to local weather conditions and regional festivals. Parents and students are advised to stay updated on the latest announcements from local authorities and school administrations.

School Holiday Today on Sep 19:

In several southern states, schools will soon begin extended holidays for the Dussehra festival. For example, schools in Karnataka will close from September 20 to October 6, while Telangana will observe holidays from September 21 to October 3. Andhra Pradesh will have a nine-day holiday from September 24 to October 2. Although September 19 is a working day, these long breaks will begin shortly afterward.

In eastern and northeastern states like West Bengal, Odisha, Tripura, and Jharkhand, many schools were already closed on September 17 due to Vishwakarma Puja, a significant regional festival. Apart from this, the Durga Puja festival later in the month will also bring several days of holidays in these regions, particularly on September 29 and 30.

Some areas are also facing weather-related uncertainties. In Dehradun, Uttarakhand, schools and Anganwadi centres remain under review due to local safety concerns. Authorities may extend closures if the situation does not improve. Meanwhile, in Maharashtra, districts such as Aurangabad, Nagpur, Yavatmal, and Amravati are under a yellow alert for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. However, no official state-wide school holiday has been declared yet.

In addition to festival-related breaks, a few states will also observe local holidays. For instance, Haryana has a holiday on September 22 for Maharaja Agrasen Jayanti.

To avoid confusion, parents and students should check official notifications from schools and state education departments. While September 19 is a normal working day for most schools, the holiday calendar for the rest of September is packed with major festivals and regional events.

In short, except for some localized closures due to rainfall or festivals, September 19, 2025, is not a declared holiday nationwide. However, extended breaks for Dussehra and Durga Puja are just around the corner.
