School Holiday Tomorrow:
Schools in many parts of India will remain closed on October 7, 2025, to celebrate Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti. This day marks the birth anniversary of Maharishi Valmiki, who is believed to be the author of the great epic Ramayana. The festival is celebrated across India with devotion and cultural activities.
In Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has declared a public holiday for Valmiki Jayanti. Earlier, District Magistrate Manish Bansal had also announced a local holiday on October 6 for the Maa Shakambhari Devi Mela. With both holidays falling close together, students and employees in UP are enjoying a long weekend. The Valmiki community had requested this public holiday to honor the contributions of Maharishi Valmiki, who is remembered as the Adi Kavi or the first poet. Schools, colleges, and government offices in the state will remain closed, and special pujas and events will be held in temples and community halls.
Similarly, the Delhi government has also declared a public holiday on October 7. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta confirmed that schools, colleges, and government offices in the national capital will stay closed on this day. Cultural programs and awareness events highlighting Maharishi Valmiki’s teachings are being planned across the city.
In Madhya Pradesh, schools and government offices will also be shut on October 7 to observe the occasion. Communities will organize special gatherings and activities to pay respect to Valmiki’s life and message of truth, compassion, and justice.
October is a festive month in India with several holidays. Apart from Valmiki Jayanti, major festivals include Durga Puja, Dussehra, Diwali, Govardhan Puja, Bhai Dooj, and Chhath Puja.
These holidays not only celebrate India’s cultural diversity but also give students and families a chance to participate in religious and social celebrations together.
