School Holidays:
There is good news for students across several Indian states, as many schools and colleges will remain closed on November 5 and 6, 2025. The holidays are being given on the occasion of Karthika Pournami and Guru Nanak Jayanti, both considered very important festivals in India.
According to official information, the Telangana government has declared November 5 as an official public holiday. The state’s government holiday calendar already lists this day as a holiday because Guru Nanak Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Sikh spiritual leader Guru Nanak, and Karthika Pournami, a holy Hindu festival, fall on the same day. Since the day is special for both Hindus and Sikhs, the Telangana government has announced a full-day holiday for schools, colleges, and government offices.
In Andhra Pradesh, however, there is no official public holiday on November 5. The state government has given an optional holiday, meaning employees can take a day off if they wish. Schools and colleges in Andhra Pradesh will mostly remain open, but many private institutions may declare a holiday for convenience.
Students in Telangana are especially happy, as after the November 5 holiday, they will have only two working days — November 6 and 7 (Thursday and Friday) — before enjoying another two-day weekend on November 8 and 9 (Saturday and Sunday). This long break is bringing excitement among students and families planning short trips or temple visits during Karthika month.
Apart from the Telugu states, schools will remain closed in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra on November 5 due to Guru Nanak Jayanti celebrations.
On November 6, schools in Uttar Pradesh will remain closed for Ganga Snan. In Bihar, schools will also remain closed due to the state assembly elections scheduled for that day. Meanwhile, Meghalaya will observe a holiday for its famous Ngohm Dance Festival.
With back-to-back holidays, students across many states can look forward to a short festive break in early November.
