Schools and Colleges Declared Holiday:
Cyclone Ditwah is bringing heavy rain and strong winds to several parts of Andhra Pradesh. Weather officials say the cyclone, which is currently located over the southwest Bay of Bengal near the Sri Lanka coast, is moving in the north-west direction. They also say that Cyclone Ditwah may turn into a deep depression within a few hours. Because of this, many districts in the South Coastal and Rayalaseema regions are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.
The administration has already taken precautionary steps. NDRF and SDRF teams have been shifted to the affected areas to handle emergencies. Officials are monitoring the situation closely, especially in districts like Tirupati, Nellore, Annamaiah, and Kadapa, where heavy rain is expected.
Due to the cyclone, the government has announced a holiday for all schools and educational institutions in Tirupati district on Monday, December 1. This decision was taken because the Meteorological Department warned that the district may receive intense rainfall along with strong winds. The Collector confirmed that all schools, colleges, and anganwadi centres will remain closed for one day. Similarly, Nellore and Annamaiah districts have also declared a holiday for both government and private schools.
Weather officials also said that coastal areas may experience winds blowing at a speed of nearly 40 km/h along with continuous rainfall. Middle coastal regions may see moderate to heavy rain. Because the cyclone may move parallel to the North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts, people living in low-lying areas are asked to stay alert. Andhra Pradesh Disaster Management Authority Managing Director Prakhar Jain advised citizens of Prakasam, Nellore, and Tirupati districts to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel.
The government has also prepared its electricity staff to stay on duty and make sure there are no major power problems during the cyclone. Ministers and district officials have instructed all departments to stay ready for quick action if any emergency arises.
With Cyclone Ditwah expected to impact the southern districts the most, people are requested to follow safety instructions and stay indoors until the situation becomes normal.
