Schools Closed Today:

Many parts of South India are facing heavy rain because of Cyclone Ditwah. This cyclone is moving over the southwest Bay of Bengal and is coming closer to the coasts of Chennai, Puducherry, and southern Andhra Pradesh. Due to this, several districts have announced holidays for schools and colleges to keep students safe.

Schools Closed Today:

On December 3, 2025, the Chennai District Collector, Rashmi Siddharth Zagade, declared a holiday for all educational institutions. Tiruvallur district officials also announced a holiday for the same reason. Continuous rainfall has caused waterlogging in many areas, making it difficult for children to travel safely.

The University of Madras has postponed all UG, PG, and professional degree theory exams scheduled for Wednesday. A new timetable will be released soon. Some other colleges in Chennai have also postponed their semester-end exams because of poor road conditions and transportation issues.

In Kerala and Karnataka, only a few higher-education institutions are affected. Most schools in these states continue to operate normally. However, students have been advised to follow local notices, as the weather situation can change quickly.

In Delhi-NCR, all schools remain open, as the area is not affected by the cyclone or rain. In many other states, daily life continues as usual. Parents in unaffected regions are being reminded to rely on official school messages instead of assuming a nationwide holiday.

Some areas in Andhra Pradesh, including Tirupati, Nellore, and Annamayya districts, may announce holidays depending on the rainfall alerts. In Puducherry and Karaikal, authorities are likely to keep all schools closed due to ongoing waterlogging.

Coaching centres in rain-hit regions are shifting to online classes for the day. Many schools are also using this unexpected break to fix rain-related damages, such as clearing waterlogged playgrounds and checking building safety.

Students are being advised to keep track of SMS or WhatsApp updates from their schools. While most of North and Central India continues normal classes, South India is on alert as Cyclone Ditwah moves closer to the coast. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will release new updates as needed.
