Tragic Stampede at Thalapathy Vijay Rally:
A tragic stampede occurred at a roadshow organized by Tamil actor and TVK party president Vijay in Karur, Tamil Nadu. The incident has left at least 33 people dead, including women and children, and dozens more injured. Among the critically injured, 12 people are reported to be in a serious condition, with over 30 others receiving hospital treatment.
The rally in Karur had attracted a huge crowd of supporters and party workers. During Vijay’s speech, chaos broke out, leading to a stampede. Eyewitnesses say the large gathering made it difficult for emergency services to reach the victims quickly, worsening the situation. Medical teams from nearby cities, including Salem and Tiruchirappalli, were immediately dispatched to assist.
Actor Vijay reportedly noticed the stampede during his speech and stopped addressing the crowd. He tried to provide bottled water to the attendees and assist as much as possible before leaving the stage. Despite these efforts, the number of casualties has risen, and authorities fear that more deaths could occur.
Health Minister Ma. Subramanian and the District Collector confirmed the deaths of 10 people initially, but the toll later increased to 33. The victims include women and children, highlighting the severity of the tragedy. Karur Government Hospital is currently overwhelmed as relatives and public members have gathered there, mourning the victims.
The Chief Minister has ordered the entire state administration to respond urgently to the situation. Hospitals are working round the clock to treat the injured, and rescue operations continue. Officials are also investigating how the stampede occurred and what measures can be taken to prevent such tragedies in the future.
This incident is a reminder of the risks of large public gatherings when crowd control measures are insufficient. Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with the ongoing rescue and relief efforts.
