Schools Closed Today
Due to heavy monsoon rains, several schools across India have experienced closures. Officials announced that they will close schools on July 23, 2025, in districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Noida, Ghaziabad, and Meerut.The closures were due to the Sawan Shivratri festival and the ongoing Kanwar Yatra. Schools in Delhi also closed on the same day for the same reasons.
In the southern states, Tamil Nadu announced district-specific holidays for cultural events. In Ariyalur District, schools were closed on July 23, 24, and 28. These holidays were for the birth anniversary of Emperor Rajendra Chola I and the Thiruvathirai festival. In Kanyakumari District, schools were closed on July 24 for Aadi Amavasai. This day is important to honor ancestors. Officials will close schools in Chengalpattu District on July 28 for the Aadipooram festival. In Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, authorities declared school holidays on July 23 due to heavy rainfall and a Bandh (strike). These holidays might continue until July 25, especially for younger students. The school closures in these states depend on the weather conditions. The officials may decide to extend the holidays if the rains continue.
In Chhattisgarh, the Hareli Tihar festival is celebrated on July 24, 2025. It is an important festival for farmers. The state government declared a public holiday for this occasion. Schools remain closed for the day, and children enjoy traditional celebrations, including walking on bamboo stilts called ‘Gedi’.
In Uttar Pradesh, the Sawan Shivratri and Kanwar Yatra events caused school closures in several districts, including Noida and Ghaziabad. Schools closed on July 23 for Jalabhishek, a ritual related to Sawan Shivratri. Some schools conducted online classes on July 22 and resumed physical classes on July 24. Authorities often announce school closures for cultural, religious, or safety reasons.Major festivals like Sawan Shivratri and Aadipooram lead to closures. Heavy rain, waterlogging, or flooding can also lead to school holidays. District officials decide on closures based on weather and local conditions.
