Earth Facts: It is quite a thought to meet every person on Earth-a cosmic social experiment, if you will! But the moment you start working the numbers, the dreams of ever becoming a reality become distant.
The world today is home to almost 8 billion human beings. Consider this: if you were to meet all of these people for just one second-with no rest, no sleep, no food, just an interminable series of hellos-it would take you more than 253 years even at that rate. That is almost three human lifetimes of non-stop work!
Now, that is all premised on the existence of constant population; but life, in actuality, is constantly changing. The births and the deaths of people are occurring every second, so “finding everyone” becomes even more impossible.
You can imagine how many would try to count this: welcoming people at the rate of one minute per person would take over 15,000 years, assuming world population stood still. Certainly, no human life could endure for that long.
While the numbers teach us that it’s impossible, the idea itself feels humbling. Each one of those billions has their own story, own culture, and experiences-some of which we might never know will exist in one lifetime.
It puts into perspective just how small our individualistic worlds are concerning the vastness of humanity’s variety. We might never meet everyone, but every single person we do comes with a wee view of the big mosaic which makes up this world.
