Justin Timberlake Diagnosed with Lyme Disease

Singer and actor Justin Timberlake has revealed that he is battling Lyme disease. The pop star shared the news on Instagram on August 1, 2025, while discussing the physical struggles he experienced during his two-year-long world tour.

Timberlake said he felt extreme nerve pain, fatigue, and flu-like symptoms while performing. “When I first got the diagnosis, I was shocked. But at least I could understand why I was in so much pain or feeling so sick,” he wrote. The singer added that he hopes his diagnosis will raise awareness about the disease and the difficulties faced by those living with it.

What Is Lyme Disease?

Lyme disease is a bacterial infection caused by Borrelia burgdorferi. It spreads to humans through the bite of infected black-legged ticks, also known as deer ticks. It is the most common tick-borne illness in the Northern Hemisphere.

Early symptoms usually appear within 3 to 30 days after a tick bite. These can include a circular red rash, fever, fatigue, headache, and muscle or joint pain. If untreated, the infection can spread to the nervous system, joints, and heart. Diagnosis often requires clinical evaluation and lab testing.

Treatment generally involves antibiotics. However, some patients continue to experience symptoms like pain and fatigue for months or years after treatment.

Several well-known figures have spoken about their experience with Lyme disease. Avril Lavigne, Justin Bieber, Bella Hadid, and Amy Schumer have publicly detailed their struggles with severe fatigue and brain fog caused by the illness. Others like Ben Stiller, Shania Twain, and Alec Baldwin have also faced symptoms ranging from swollen joints to recurring flare-ups.

Yolanda Hadid, Bella Hadid’s mother, also battled Lyme and wrote a book about her experience.
