Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan sparked a political row over the Congress party’s ‘Gayab (missing)’ post against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “missing in duty”. Pawan Kalyan called the post an open threat to the Prime Minister and compared it to terrorist and extremist slogans such as ‘Sar Tan Se Juda’ (Beheading). Speaking to the media, he termed the Congress post a serious insult to the Prime Minister and sought legal action against it.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also jumped into the fray, blaming the Congress for provoking violence against the Prime Minister. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla called the post “in the language of Pakistanis” and accused that it was an expression of extremist feelings. Another BJP functionary, Amit Malviya, had accused Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party of uttering inflammatory language in a bid to appease certain vote banks. He further stated that those efforts would be fruitless because Prime Minister Modi has the support of the masses from people in India. The statements of Bilawal Bhutto ignites the fire of controversy
The furore continued after Pawan Kalyan’s reaction to the remark of Pakistani politician Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari that “blood will flow in the Indus River” if India stops water from flowing. Pawan Kalyan reminded Pakistan in no uncertain terms of the fact that it had lost three wars and requested Pakistan not to invite more aggression. Pawan Kalyan claimed that the resolve of India was unshakable when it was threatened in this manner and demanded responsible leadership.
Call for responsibility
The Deputy CM stressed that neither international nor local leaders should resort to inflammatory language that would lead to violence and conflict. He called on leaders to be responsible and respect history, referring to the consequences of what has occurred in the past.
The ‘Gayab’ post to Prime Minister Modi has generated a burning political issue, inviting scathing criticism to Pawan Kalyan and BJP leaders. The episode, along with belligerence from the neighboring nations, puts into focus the need for diplomacy and political maturity in upholding peace and harmony within and beyond India’s geographical borders. Leadership demands restraint and wisdom – a message to all those in power, says Pawan Kalyan.
