Lok Sabha MP Mohammad Javed, elected from Kishanganj Lok Sabha seat in Bihar, has challenged the Waqf Amendment Bill in the Supreme Court. After the bill was passed by both the houses of Parliament, MP Javed knocked the door of the country’s biggest court and appealed to declare this bill unconstitutional. Apart from Javed, Asaduddin Owaisi, MP elected from Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana joined Hyderabad MP challenges this proposed law in the Supreme Court.
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen MP Owaisi strongly opposed this bill during the nearly 12-hour discussion on this bill in the Lok Sabha. Referring to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, Owaisi had talked about tearing a copy of the bill symbolically in protest against this bill.

When were the bills passed in Parliament
The Waqf Amendment Bill, 2025 was passed by the Lok Sabha on 3 April 2025. After the discussion started on 2 April 2025, the discussion went on for about 12 hours. After voting on the bill and the amendments proposed in it late at night, the bill was passed by the Lok Sabha at 1.56 am. A total of 288 votes were cast in its support, while 232 votes were cast against it.
The next day on April 4, this bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha. Discussion on this bill started in the Rajya Sabha on 3 April 2025. At 2.32 am, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar announced the passage of the bill. This bill got the support of 128 MPs in the Rajya Sabha, while 95 votes were cast against it.
