Actor Aditya Madhavan has spoken up after criticism regarding his lack of reaction during the recent press conference mishap wherein a vlogger made an improper and body-shaming comment toward actress Gouri Kishan.
In a sincere statement, Aditya discussed the criticism and clarified that his quiet shouldn’t be interpreted as supporting body-shaming. “I froze. It was my first film and I didn’t know how to respond at that time,” he admitted. He went on to say regret, “Everyone deserves respect. I should have spoken up immediately, and I truly regret.”
Responding to singer Chinmayi Sripada’s post extolling Gouri for standing up against the insulting query, Aditya provided his definition.
The debate began at a press conference for the upcoming Tamil film Others, where a YouTuber asked Gouri Kishan about her weight. Gouri firmly challenged the question, replying, “That is foolish and inappropriate” and asked, “Do all heroines need to be thin?”
Though the vlogger tried to explain the question, Gouri remained strong, repeating it was disrespectful. At the moment, though, both director Abin Hariharan and co-star Aditya Madhavan stayed quiet, which incited public criticism following the viral video.
Talking to Asianet News, Gouri said that she felt alone during the event surrounded by “50 males in the room” while no one interfered. She also condemned vloggers for crossing editorial lines, stating, “Having a phone doesn’t make you a journalist.”
Her strong reaction and Aditya’s following apologies have brought back debate on professional ethics and respect for women in public settings.
