Lucifer Trilogy Conceptualized Before Baahubali, Reveals Prithviraj Sukumaran

Director Prithviraj Sukumaran in recent promotional event of his upcoming film has hinted that L2: Empuraan might feature a post-credit scene by encouraging fans to stay until the very end.

During a recent promotional event, Prithviraj shared that the Lucifer franchise was always envisioned as a trilogy. Interestingly this concept was planned even before the success of the Baahubali series. While the first film had a complete storyline, it also subtly opened the door for future parts. The sequel however will include a major twist making a third part inevitable. Unlike its predecessor, Lucifer (2019) which only teased a sequel during the credits, the upcoming installment may offer more for viewers.

He explained, “I planned Lucifer as a three part series even before the Baahubali series. When the first part was released, we already had a trilogy in mind. However back then the concept of cinematic universes and franchises wasn’t widely recognized. That’s why we chose to keep Lucifer’s ending conclusive though it left room for a sequel. But in part two, we introduce a surprise that makes part three necessary.”

Fans are now buzzing with excitement, eager to see if L2: Empuraan will deliver a full fledged post credit scene or merely hint at the third chapter. The anticipation will finally end on March 27 when the film hits the big screen.

The movie boasts a stellar cast, led by Mohanlal in the titular role, with Prithviraj Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran and Manju Warrier adding to the ensemble. Additionally it features international talents like Eriq Ebouaney, Jerome Flynn and Mikhail Novikov.

This film has already made history by crossing ₹30 crore ($3.6 million) in pre release sales. It is a first for Malayalam cinema. It has also shattered the previous records held by Mohanlal’s past films by surpassing Marakkar ₹20.4 crore, Odiyan ₹18.1 crore and Lucifer ₹14.8 crore.
