Apple seems to be preparing to throw its hat into the foldable smartphone ring with the long-awaited iPhone Fold, and new leaks are starting to show us what the tech leader is up to. The iPhone Fold is set to debut sometime in 2026 and, if everything falls into place, this foldable could usher in new design, durability and performance standards for foldable smartphones.
Expected Launch Timeline
According to several reports, one from TrendForce, a Taiwanese market research company, the iPhone Fold is expected to launch in the second half of 2026 with a possible September reveal when Apple typically announces its new flagship iPhone models. If all goes as planned, we could see one of Apple’s most revolutionary launches yet.
Price Expectations for the iPhone Fold
In terms of pricing, early reports suggest that the iPhone Fold will land somewhere between USD 1,800 to 2,000 (approximately ₹1,54,000 – ₹1,72,000). However, Indian consumers may expect a much larger price tag, potentially around ₹2,00,000, due to customary import duties, GST, combined with Apple’s pricing strategy, in the region. To put things in perspective, the upcoming price of the iPhone 17 Pro Max is around ₹1,64,999 in India.
Screen Specifications and Comparison
Trendforce and well known Apple analyst Ming Chi Kuo have said that the foldable iPhone will have a 7.8 inch inner display and a 5.5 inch outer display. While this will be a bit smaller than some of its counterparts, specifically the currents best-selling foldable device the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 which has an 8-inch inner display and a 6.5-inch outer display, it still has some punch.
In addition to obviously being smaller than other foldables while still retaining many features of traditional smartphones, Apple may emphasize on the quality and durability of the screens rather than the size. One of the most exciting rumors to come out is that Apple will add a layer of laser-drilled metal beneath the display to spread out the bending effect uniformly across the display surface, potentially removing that obnoxious crease that we see on most current foldables.
Materials and Design
Rumor has it that one of the most unique design features is the titanium frame on the foldable iPhone. If you remember, titanium is now becoming a regular option for new premium iPhone models. It also supposedly takes the aluminum or glass used in previous iPhone frames to a new level for durability. The hinge mechanism is rumored to use titanium and stainless steel so that the device can retain flexibility and strength. All of those materials should make a nice aesthetic change in a foldable device.
