Akhanda 2 New Release Date: Only a few hours left for the glittering opening of Akhanda 2, but it has already gotten into a mess. With the ticket prices for the premiere raised H600 temporarily by the Telangana government, everything went down the drain.
The makers, however, confirmed that all 8 PM premiere shows across Telangana were canceled, citing reasons as technical issues.
” #Akhanda2 Premieres scheduled for today are canceled due to technical issue. We have tried best, but few things are beyond our control. Apologies for the inconvenience.”
The morning shows are also uncertain, given the lack of information from the distributors and the theater chains.
But the cancellations seem to have a deep connection with a legal hurdle, as not just technical terms.
From the legal notice in the documents shared, Madras High Court has put a strict injunction that restrains the release of Akhanda 2 in any format.
This injunction has been granted in favour of Eros International, which claims a long-pending arbitral award amounting of ₹27.80 crore plus 14% interest from 14 Reels Entertainment.
Important Points from the Court Order
Stay granted by a Division Bench, comprising Justice SM Subramaniam and Justice C. Kumarappan.
Eros argued that 14 Reels and its affiliates have been indirectly trying to release Akhanda 2 without clearing dues.
The court prohibited the producers from releasing, distributing, streaming, or commercially exploiting the film “in any manner whatsoever” until full payment is made.
The injunction remains till the disposal of Eros’ Section 9 arbitration applications.
It immediately puts a damper on any release planning.
As per industry insiders, Akhanda 2 has to be pushed into the December 24-25 Christmas window, hoping to gain from the holiday rush.
This window, however, has already been filled:
Avatar (re-release) has locked out premium screens,
Big Hollywood and pan-India releases have been prioritized among the multiplex chains.
Tollywood films are facing a barrage of competition in an already limited space.
Analysts state that even if the injunction is revoked quickly, Christmas slots will be very difficult to acquire for a regional mass film.
Court injunction still active
Premiers halted
Morning shows in doubt
Christmas already booked

Akhanda 2 faces one of the most complicated release crises in recent Tollywood history.
If legal issues are cleared in the stipulated time, a post-Christmas and early January 2026 would be a much more realistic scenario than a Christmas clash.
Fans will have to wait for an official update from the makers and next court hearing.
