Prabhas Blockbuster Movie:
Opportunities in the film industry don’t come easily. When they do, not every actor is in the right place or time to accept them. Sometimes, one actor’s rejection becomes another actor’s turning point. That’s what happened with the film “Varsham”, a huge hit in Telugu cinema.
Originally, the story of Varsham was written by director Shobhan with Mahesh Babu in mind. The producer, MS Raju, offered the story to Mahesh first. However, Mahesh felt the story didn’t suit him at that time, and he was also busy with other projects. So, he politely rejected the film.
After Mahesh’s rejection, the script was given to Prabhas, who instantly liked it. The film was made with Prabhas and Trisha in the lead roles, and Gopichand played a key supporting role. Varsham was made under the Sumanth Arts Productions banner, and the music was composed by Devi Sri Prasad. Even before the movie was released, its songs became chartbusters.
Released with high expectations, Varsham turned out to be a massive success. It was a romantic action entertainer that connected well with the audience. The movie ran for 50 days in over 125 centers and collected a share of around ₹22 crores at the box office. It brought huge profits to the producer and distributors and was celebrated with silver and golden jubilee events.
Before Varsham, Prabhas had not seen much box office success. Interestingly, he once revealed on the “Unstoppable” talk show with Balakrishna that he was hesitant to release the film due to tough competition from other big movies. But Varsham gave him his first blockbuster hit and changed his career graph.
Although Mahesh Babu missed this opportunity, he and Prabhas later went on to become pan-India stars, delivering hundreds of crores in box office collections. Their journey shows how a missed chance for one can become a milestone for another.
