Samantha Slams Unequal Pay: Samantha Ruth Prabhu, India’s most beloved actress, has openly discussed the age-old issue of unequal pay in the industry. In a recent interview, she described how she was being paid much less than her male co-stars for doing work of the same intensity and screen space. Samantha explained, “I have been in many films where, not really sure why, but you’re paid dramatically different salaries for the same number of days and the same kind of role.”
Although she understood the rationale behind increased pay for hero men in hero movies, according to their popularity to draw masses, Samantha demonstrated how even in movies where women and men work equally hard, the difference is tangible. These distinctions, according to her, bring out the backstage problem of prejudice in the industry.
Repeating back after more than 15 years of business, Samantha said that she wanted to contribute to the future. She said, “In my lifetime, I can’t do anything about my situation. But I can do something about the future. And if I don’t, who will?” The attitude indicates that she is willing to fight against old customs and create a brighter future for generations of performers to come.
Samantha has also stressed focusing on the time of pregnancy on working with issues that annoy an individual personally, saying, “You will find your purpose in the things that bother you.”
