AP Free Bus Scheme: The Andhra Pradesh government is going to launch the Free Bus Travel Scheme for Women on August 15, 2025. This program is called Stree Shakthi and is aimed at mobility improvement. Maintaining low travel expenses, and empowering women across the state. Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy reviewed the scheme in a recent meeting to ensure all preparations are in place for an efficient rollout.
The scheme, however intended, has been drawn up for women and LGBT persons who are residents of Andhra Pradesh. Their eligibility will thus be checked using an official identification document such as Aadhaar cards linked to as mentioned the state’s database. Those expected to benefit the most from this scheme are students or working women commuting very often to work on public buses.
From August 15, women using APSRTC buses inside the state can ride for free under certain routes. The scheme covers city, town, and rural services only, not premium and luxury buses such as Garuda or Vennela. For smooth operation, a digital ticketing method would be in place for conductors to book free travel for reimbursement to the transport corporation by the government.
The Free Bus Scheme is not only a travel subsidy but a social empowerment measure. The government wishes to:
Encourage even further more women to get an education and go for jobs.
Reduce the financial burden in low- and middle-class families.
Make healthcare services and other very basic services from the rural community accessible for women.

This scheme falls under the Stree Shakthi program, one of the bigger programs for the welfare and safety of women in Andhra Pradesh. This is besides the state seeking improved infrastructure in transport, services more frequently in the rural areas of the state. And perhaps even greater safety travel.
