Latest IRCTC Refund Rules 2025: What Changed?

IRCTC Refund Rules 2025: While ticket booking continues to turn digital, IRCTC keeps on amending its rules with more consideration to the ticket-buying public, thereby making it clearer. Here’s what the IRCTC Refund Rules of 2025 comprehensively revised with the scenario that they could facilitate quicker, clearer, and friendlier refunds. There is more to know about basics when cancelling a ticket, or missing a train and getting delayed.

Key Updates of the Refund Policy in 2025

Speedy Refunds

Currently, the e-tickets refunds are processed by IRCTC within 2 or 3 business days as against the earlier 5 to 7 working days prescribed by the guidelines.

Auto-Cancellation of Waitlisted Tickets

Refunds on fully waitlisted e-tickets are automatically initiated and refunded without any manual request after preparation of the chart for that ticket.

Partially Confirmed Tickets Partially Refunded

Passengers with partially confirmed tickets can now choose the option of unconfirmed seats cancellation and proportionate refunds.

Confirmed Tatkal tickets do not fall under the refund category.

Tatkal tickets that are confirmed, like before, cannot be refunded, while Tatkal tickets with wait slips may be refunded automatically.

Missed a train? Know your rights.

If a person misses the train for personal reasons, there is no refund at all. In contrast, for train delays exceeding 3 hours, full ticket cancellations for passengers can also be done according to the revised departure time of the train.
